5. Racial Equity Update (below revised)

As President Biden stated when he signed the Executive Order on Racial Equity: “…the moment [has] arrived as a nation where we face deep racial inequities in America and…

— systemic racism that has plagued our nation for far, far too long.” As City managers you are charged with addressing the issues that are being raised regarding racial equity and the implementation and management of racial equity action plan strategies which are now an intricate component of departmental operations. MEA is committed to helping and supporting City managers with training as well as providing support to ensure that you are able to navigate and succeed in what you will be called upon to address. Initially we are providing you with links to the Office of Racial Equity (ORE) Racial Justice Resources to support your racial equity foundational learning and development. MEA Board and Staff are also developing a Racial Equity Policy Statement and training workshops for our members, both of which will be rolled out in the coming months.

MEA Leadership 1.0 program: (below revised)

Leadership is all about engaging others in conversations that move people to action. The core focus of the CCSF and MEA Leadership Development program is to help City leaders build skills to successfully engage with key stakeholders, colleagues, the boss, the team and the individual team members. As part of a three-month cohort, leaders take part in a workshop series to learn and practice models for communicating in a variety of situations. DHR is working on transforming the program components into a virtual delivery format, and finding an alternative to the Coaching for Excellence component. DHR anticipates launching the Leadership 1.0 virtual program at the end of March and having it run through the end of May. We will update our members once the dates are set.

Save-the-Date - Annual Ethics and Form 700 Workshop "The Do's and Don'ts for Managers" on March 10, 2021 at 11AM-12PM (more details to follow)
