SF HSS 2027 Open Enrollment Starts This Thursday
It's that time of year again to review the health benefits you have with the San Francisco Health Service System. This year, we want all members to Find the Value in Your Benefits.
Your plans include hidden gems that can help you meet your wellness goals—like using vision benefits for non‑prescription sunglasses, accessing acupuncture or chiropractic care without a referral, maternity programs with a doula or midwife, and more. Review your plan’s Summary of Benefits to uncover more perks you may not have known about.
Open Enrollment starts on Thursday, October 1, 2026 at 8:00 a.m. and ends on Friday, October 23, 2026 at 5:00 p.m. PST.
During OE you'll be able to:
- Add or change your Medical, Vision, and Dental plan.
- Add or drop dependents from coverage.
- Enroll or re-enroll in Healthcare or Dependent Care Flexible Spending Accounts
- Enroll in Voluntary Benefits with Workterra
Starting now until October 23, 2026, visit sfhss.org and click on the Open Enrollment menu to access a drop down menu and select your OE guide for your employer group. From there, you can learn about what's new or changing, and how to make your benefit elections for the next plan year that will take effect January 1, 2027.
HealthNet CanopyCare HMO Exiting CA
Health Net Will Not Be Available Starting March 1, 2027
Health Net notified SFHSS on September 2, 2026, that it will leave the California market at the end of February 2027. All current Health Net members are highly encouraged to choose a new medical plan during Open Enrollment, so you don't face coverage disruptions in the new plan year.
Many providers that are in the Health Net CanopyCare network are also in-network with the Blue Shield medical plans. You can select a PCP when you enroll in a Blue Shield of California HMO plan by following the select your PCP during enrollment instructions here.
If you were planning to switch to Health Net, please reconsider to avoid disruption.
Premiums for Some Non-Medicare Health Plans Increased at a Rate Higher Than the National Average
Several health plans have significantly increased their premiums for plan year 2027 due to the rising costs of health care. We encourage you to review all available medical plan options to see if a more affordable health plan can meet your needs.
